Fermoy Cuts Ties With Polish Town That Declared Itself An “LGBT-Free Zone”

The issue was due to be discussed at Council level in March, however it was postponed due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Around 100 areas in Poland have been given the status – with the country remaining one of just six in Europe not to legalise same-sex marriage.

Councillors in Fermoy have decided to end the twin relationship with Nowa Deba as they felt it was discriminatory towards members of the LGBT+ community.

In July councillors agreed to temporarily suspend ties with the town and wrote to their counterparts to outline their concerns.
